Faculty, staff and students are welcome to virtually attend the Pittsburgh Arts and Lectures series on Sept. 3 at 6 p.m., featuring the WVU Press’ author, Deesha Philyaw.

Philyaw's book, “The Secret Lives of Church Ladies,” explores the raw and tender places where Black women and girls dare to follow their desires and pursue a momentary reprieve from being good.

The book has been hailed as one of “24 New and Forthcoming Books That Celebrate Black Lives,” and called “tender, fierce, proudly black and beautiful” in a starred review from Kirkus.

The Secret Lives of Church Ladies is now available from WVU Press.

The event is open and free to the public.
