City of Morgantown to implement 1 percent Municipal Sales and Use Tax

wvu campus

WVU Tax Services would like to make the University community aware that effective July 1, the City of Morgantown will implement a 1 percent Municipal Sales and Use Tax. Departments/Units located in the Morgantown area with sales that are subject to West Virginia State Sales tax at 6 percent should begin collecting the additional 1 percent Morgantown Municipal Sales tax as of July 1.

Notices were sent May 18 to EBO and business offices with a history of taxable sales.  If you are in the Morgantown area and your Department/Unit has sales subject to WV State Sales tax, you should have received this notice.  If you did not or if you need additional information, WVU Tax Services is available to answer your questions and provide assistance as we make this mandatory tax change. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Tax Services team members are currently working remotely but are available via e-mail, TEAMS and phone.  All questions should be directed first via e-mail to Melissa Hunt, Assistant Director at melissa.hunt@mail.wvu.edu.
