Five WVU faculty members have been selected by the Office of the Provost following a rigorous application process as the recipients of the 2020-2022 Innovation, Design and Entrepreneurship Applied Faculty Fellowship, a multi-disciplinary initiative to bolster WVU’s culture of entrepreneurship and innovation.
The IDEA Fellows will infuse entrepreneurial ideas in their coursework for the coming academic year. In addition, as a cohort, they will work to champion entrepreneurship and innovation across the University over the next two years.
The 2020-2022 IDEA Faculty Fellows are:
Dylan Collins, assistant professor and sculpture area coordinator, School of Art and Design, College of Creative Arts
Emily Hughes Corio, teaching associate professor, Reed College of Media
KyungMoon Kim, assistant professor of Management, WVU Tech
Amr Mohammed, associate professor of Civil Engineering, WVU Tech
Angela Uriyo, visiting assistant professor, Fashion, Design and Merchandising, Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design
“We are excited to welcome our fourth cohort of IDEA Fellows to this program. Working in a wide variety of academic disciplines, they will encourage our students to think outside the box while also impacting the economic and social future of West Virginia and beyond,” said Carrie White, director of the LaunchLab who oversees the IDEA Faculty Fellow program. “While we hope to infuse a greater culture of innovation across our University, we also hope these unique teaching experiences will show students new ways to problem-solve, think creatively and take on innovative opportunities in their own fields of discipline.”
During the 2020-2022 academic year, each Fellow will offer a course in their academic discipline that incorporates exciting new approaches to innovative learning.
Fashion students will be encouraged to research and create a profitable, durable and scalable fashion business models linked to a solution or long-term financial sustainability plan to address Appalachia’s most pressing challenges. Journalism students will learn innovative storytelling approaches and collaborative reporting. Creative arts students will connect the problem-solving aspects of sculpture and three-dimensional design with technology used by furniture makers, metal casting foundries, sign shops and other commercial industries and businesses. Management students will create and develop groundbreaking business ideas.
Overseen by the Office of the Provost, the IDEA Fellows program provides faculty an opportunity to create curriculum specifically designed to enhance student skills in the areas of innovation, design and entrepreneurship.
