The Student Employee Appreciation Committee is pleased to announce Kayla Tokar as West Virginia University’s 2020 Student Employee of the Year.
Tokar, a research assistant, is a senior earning her BA in Music. After graduation, she hopes to work in the field of museum education. Not only did she win this honor at WVU, but the Midwest Association of Student Employment Administrators also named her Student Employee of the Year for the entire state of West Virginia. Her fellow Top 5 Student Employee of the Year nominees at WVU were Elijah Dempsey, Jakobi Harris, Marra Sigler, and Cheyanne Steen.
Tokar’s win was announced Friday, April 17 during a Student Employee of the Year Zoom video celebration. The call allowed the top nominees to virtually come together with their supervisors as well as WVU’s President Gee, WVU Institute of Technology’s President Long, and the Student Employee Appreciation Committee. Between the presidents’ moving speeches and the supervisors’ kind words for their students, it was the perfect opportunity to show appreciation for the hard work these student employees have put forth.
Student Employee Appreciation Week may be over, and our student employees’ roles may look different now that we are no longer on campus together. But we still encourage supervisors to remember their students’ hard work during these times and drop a note of appreciation whenever they can. Check the Student Employment website to stay updated with how you can best serve your student workers.
