Most employees working off campus will be able to access what they need using their home internet service, but a new Virtual Private Network (VPN) service will replicate the on-campus experience for those who need to connect to WVU’s network for restricted resources. You do NOT need a VPN to access email, calendars or anything else in the Office 365 suite, including Microsoft Teams. Other resources for working remotely are at it.wvu.edu/help.
Users at the Health Sciences Center should refer to HSC resources for remote-access questions.
To use the new VPN, you must have current, supported anti-virus software and a current operating system. If you need anti-virus, visit freeav.wvu.edu and install Sophos.
You will only be able to reach the VPN from within the United States, and you may only have one active session at a time. VPN connections contribute to the burden on the WVU network, so use it ONLY for important University business, and disconnect the VPN when your work is complete. Also be mindful of data security when using the VPN, and do not download sensitive information to your personal computer.
Your machine will be disconnected if it becomes infected with a virus or if ITS identifies other security risks.
To use the VPN, follow the instructions to download the software client for Windows or macOS. Once the client is downloaded, enter your WVU Login credentials and authenticate with Duo two-factor. Please call the ITS Service Desk at 304-293-4444 if you have problems with installation.
If you need to access services beyond those listed at it.wvu.edu/help, you may need to work with your supervisor to come back to campus and get what you need. During this unprecedented time, Information Technology Services can’t guarantee virtual access to all WVU services.
Other ITS resources for working remotely are available at it.wvu.edu/help.

University employees and students should also continue to monitor their email inboxes, as well as the website, for updates.
WVU has established an email account, coronavirus@mail.wvu.edu, for those who have questions or concerns.
