UPDATE: Three-Minute Thesis Grand Finale to be held online

Three Minute Thesis

In accordance with the university’s effort in monitoring the COVID-19 epidemic, and current university guideline on curtailing large events to at least April 3, the Three-Minute Thesis Grand Finale hosted by the Office of Graduate Education and Life originally scheduled to take place in the Mountainlair Ballrooms April 2 will now be held as a virtual competition. Judges will score the 10 presentations submitted by the finalists online, and the public will be able to watch the presentations and vote online for their favorite for the People’s Choice Award.

This 3MT competition challenges doctoral students to present their research topic and its significance in three minutes and using just one slide. The 3MT competition develops academic, presentation, and research communication skills, as well as supports the development of graduate students' capacity to communicate their research succinctly to a non-specialist audience.

Grand Finale prizes:

  • First place prize: $1,000.

  • Second place prize: $ 750.

  • Third place prize: $500.

  • People’s Choice prize: $250 (the public will be invited to cast a single vote by 8 p.m. April 2).

  • Finalists who do not win a prize will receive $100.
