Attend English professor talk on how poems use philosophical form to investigate logic, prediction

Johanna Winant

Continuing the focus on “The Future” as the Humanities Center’s 2019-2020 Speakers Series theme, the Center will host WVU’s own Johanna Winant from the Eberly College’s Department of English to present her work, “Predictive Texts: Logic, Form, and Poetry.” Faculty, staff, students and community members are welcome to attend March 10 at 7 p.m. in the Milano Reading Room of the Downtown Library.

Winant’s talk will trace how logical form may be literary, and vice versa, with examples ranging from Dante's poetry, to Walt Whitman's, to the work of the contemporary poet Donika Kelly. Of particular importance will be the forms that support (often uncertain) predictions of the future.
