Join the Provost's Office and ADVANCE Center to learn techniques for managing difficult conversations in the classroom. Student in-class contributions can challenge and derail instructors' teaching plans, but effective management can turn challenges into opportunities. This Thursday (Jan. 23) interactive workshop, "Challenging Conversations in the Classroom," is designed to help you do just that - tailor response techniques to match your style.
In this 90-minute session, we will connect with other instructors, discuss common challenging conversations and collaboratively strategize on how to best lead our students during these conversations. To assist in this process, facilitator Christy Rittenour, associate professor of communication studies, will offer several research-based strategies that consider various interpersonal and instructional styles.
The session will be held from 3 - 4:30 p.m. in the Greenbrier Room of the Mountainlair.
This session is open to all faculty, chairs and academic leaders. Please register online by today (Jan. 21).
