The Career Services Center has announced the official name change of the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources Career Fair to the STEM Career and Internship Fair.
The career pathways model is an organized approach to career planning created to better prepare students for their first professional job, while also equipping them with a sustainable set of skills within a related group of industries and businesses, providing flexibility for an ever-changing job market.
By integrating specialized co- and extra-curricular programming with students’ core academics, graduates will possess the necessary knowledge, skills and ability to adapt to future high-demand, high-opportunity jobs.
One of the largest pathways at WVU, the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math pathway consists of more than 40 majors, representing seven schools or colleges.

The STEM Fair is the third major career event that has been rebranded with an emphasis on pathways. The Health Careers and Internship Fair, as well as the Agriculture and Natural Sciences Career and Internship Fair, were launched this fall to attract a larger number of students searching for internships and job opportunities within their pathway.
“Using the pathway model allows us to create industry-based opportunities for students that are defined by their individual career aspirations, rather than their college or specific major,” explained Dave Durham, director of Career Services. “With an emphasis on pathways, career fairs will expose students to a broader range of career opportunities; many that may have traditionally been considered outside of their specific major of study.”
Changing the name of the STEM Career and Internship Fair will not only appeal to a larger student population but will also attract a larger and more diverse group of employers to recruit on campus. This event will continue to provide students and alumni the invaluable opportunity to speak face-to-face with employers.
The STEM Fair will take place on Jan.29, 2020, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center, and is open to all majors.
The WVU Career Services Center is a University-wide student resource serving undergraduate and graduate students, as well as alumni.
