The Division of Talent and Culture invites faculty and staff to attend a Social Security session and a TIAA session Nov. 8 at the Erickson Alumni Center.
The Social Security session will be facilitated by Elaine Cole, public affairs specialist at the U.S. Social Security Administration, in two time slots 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Topics of discussion will include:
- Applying for retirement benefits.
- determining eligibility and computing benefits.
- paying taxes on benefits received.
- calculating spouse and survivor benefits.
- clarifying the impact of marriage, divorce, remarriage or becoming a surviving spouse.
- working while receiving benefits.
- coordinating other sources of retirement income.
- calculating whether you/your spouse claim your benefits first.
- establishing the parts of Medicare in which you need to enroll.
The TIAA session "Paying Yourself: Income Options in Retirement" will be held from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. The session will be presented by Jason Junkin, financial consultant. Topics of discussion will include:
- simplifying retirement income
- explaining basic rules that govern retirement accounts
- learning ways to identify when to tap into different assets
Employees are welcome to bring a guest to each session. Representatives from Humana, PEIA, TIAA and Benefits Administration will be available to answer questions. Registration is required.
