Seminar to cover effect of wind-energy development on migration and population of bats

wind energy

Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend a seminar covering migration patterns and population genetics of bats killed at wind-energy facilities in North America. David Nelson, associate professor in the Appalachian Laboratory at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, will present at 4 p.m. Oct. 16, in 4004 Agricultural Sciences.

Nelson will discuss the large-scale mortality of bats as an unanticipated impact of wind-energy development. Understanding the potential impact of such mortality is a high priority for the conservation of bats and the ecosystem services they provide.

The seminar is co-hosted by the Institute of Water Security and Science and the Division of Plant and Soil Sciences.
