Career Services’ job posting site MountaineerTRAK will be replaced by the online application Handshake. More than 700 universities already use the platform, and Career Services hopes this switch will increase student interaction, as well as increase access to part-time job, internship and entry-level career opportunities for WVU students and alumni.
On this new, user-friendly platform, students create profiles similar to LinkedIn, set employer alerts and job notifications, view upcoming career fairs and schedule appointments with career development specialists. Handshake will make it more convenient for employers to share opportunities with WVU students. Before, companies needed to make a separate MountaineerTRAK account to interact with individuals, but Handshake has created a one-stop shop where companies only need one account to reach students from their preferred schools.
Handshake will officially be open for students July 16, while employers are already making the transition. Work study jobs and on-and off-campus positions can still be found using MountaineerTRAK until the launch.
Career Services is currently notifying all users, companies and faculty of the shift. Students and alumni can expect an announcement with more details mid-July.
Training sessions will be available in August for anyone on campus wanting to learn about Handshake. For specific questions, call Career Services at 304.293.2221 or for more information, visit Handshake.
