After an update to MAP Sunday (June 2) faculty and staff who use Windows computers must update their machines to Java version 1.8 for continued access. Do not upgrade Windows to Java version 1.8 before Monday, June 3. Doing so will result in a loss of access to some MAP features. Also, to make sure the correct version of Java is installed, do not update through your web browser.
No other applications, such as Web Clock, Leave Request or Data Miner, are affected by this change. MacOS users do not need to apply Java updates.
On Monday (June 3) or the next time you use MAP after that date, use the Software Center and follow the instructions below to manually update Java:
Click on the Start Menu in the lower left-hand corner of your screen and select the Software Center icon. If the icon is not pinned to your Start Menu, you can access it through the programs list in the Microsoft System Center folder.
Once the Software Center application loads, click to select WVU – Java 1.8 Upgrade 212
Click Install and wait for the installation process to complete. This may take a few minutes while all previous versions of Java are removed. After the installation finishes, close Software Center.
When using MAP after Java is updated, you may see a pop-up warning to Keep, Open or Allow access to Java. This is normal. Your browser needs to know that this new version of Java is approved for use. Click Keep, Open or Allow to continue.
