Kristen Renn, professor of higher, adult and lifelong education and associate dean of undergraduate students for student success research at Michigan State University, will conduct a workshop and present a lecture here Thursday (Feb.28).

The workshop, “LGBTQ College Student Success: Progress, Precarity, and Possibilities” will begin at 2 p.m. in the LGBTQ+ Center, now located at Maple House (formerly the Stalnaker/Dadisman RFL House). In the workshop, Renn will present and discuss evidence of LGBTQ students thriving despite homophobia, harassment and discrimination in K-12 schools and colleges.

The lecture, “Creating Contexts for Student Success Across Differences,” will be held at 4:30 p.m. in the Rhododendron Room on the second floor of the Mountainlair and will advocate for interconnected efforts to increase success for LGBTQ students, students of color, low-income, and first-generation students.

Renn's research interests include student success and persistence, identity and identity development in higher education; mixed race college students; women in higher education in the US and global contexts; and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues in higher education. She currently serves as President of the Association for the Study of Higher Education.
