Message to supervisors regarding teacher strike

Education union leaders announced a statewide strike for teachers and service personnel beginning today (Feb. 19). In response, several county school systems across the state have announced they are closed.

West Virginia University recognizes the closure of schools potentially could create childcare challenges for faculty and staff.

  • If the strike prevents employees from working as scheduled, they should notify their supervisor as soon as possible. Any questions about scheduling issues also should be addressed to an employee’s supervisor.
  • The University also is asking all supervisors to be sensitive to the needs of employees and their children in this situation and offer a flexible work schedule during the strike as long as their operational needs permit.

Thank you, and please contact Employee Relations at EmployeeRelations@mail.wvu.edu with any questions.
