As a result of discussions between the Office of Global Affairs, the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, the Department of World Languages, Literatures and Linguistics and the Office of the Provost, West Virginia University’s Intensive English Program will return to its original home in the Eberly College.
Effective July 1, 2019, the program will be housed in the Department of World Languages, Literatures and Linguistics, falling under the direction of department chair Amy Thompson. All offices involved will work together in the coming months to ensure a smooth transition.
“This move reflects the mission of our IEP and facilitates the program’s work with other units across campus,” said Vice Provost Paul Kreider. “Since the World Languages department’s graduate programs and faculty already maintain close working relationships with the IEP, the department is a natural fit to ensure the continued success of the program and its students.”
The IEP has served the WVU community since 1979, with the primary mission of providing English language training for non-native speakers who plan to study at a North American institution of higher education or use English in their professional lives. Today the program welcomes, orients, and instructs students from all over the world and plays an integral role in WVU’s international outreach; the IEP also contributes to the university’s multicultural population. The IEP is accredited with the American Association of Intensive English Programs and the Consortium of University and College Intensive English Programs.
In addition to extensive language training, IEP provides its students with resources relevant to all aspects of life in Morgantown, including assistance with housing, banking, academic and personal counseling, healthcare, and legal matters.
