In a continuing series of events focused on the state’s most pressing public health issues, the School of Public Health will host “Harm Reduction and Syringe Services Programs: Public Health, Law Enforcement and Local Perspectives” will from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Jan. 10 in room 1905 Health Sciences Center-North.
The event will bring to campus three experts to discuss the ongoing opioid crisis and approaches to combating epidemics related to intravenous substance use. The panelists will provide multiple perspectives – medical, law enforcement and community impact – about harm reduction initiatives and, specifically, syringe services programs.
The panel will feature presentations from an infectious disease researcher and leading U.S. author on the topic; a special agent with extensive experience in drug enforcement; and a healthcare policy leader.
Opportunities for audience Q&A will follow the presentations. The event is free and open to the public. For those who cannot attend, a live webcast will be available online.
