WVU’s outdoor experiential education program, Adventure WV, received the David J. Webb Program Excellence Award from the Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education Oct. 26 at the AORE National Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The award honors an outdoor program that has provided outstanding and innovative services to its participants and to the outdoor education industry. The nomination of the award was based upon the breadth and excellence of the Adventure WV program.

“I believe we won the award because of the depth of our integration within WVU,” said Nathan Harlan, executive director of the WVU Office of Student Wellness. “I think Adventure WV has thrived and accomplished so much because we have been innovative in responding to WVU’s needs as well its opportunities.”

Notable Adventure WV programs include First-Year Trips, the WVU Challenge Course, STEM education and youth development initiatives, the nation’s only university owned and operated canopy tour and the implementation of a student leader model that focuses on the recruitment and training of dynamic and driven student leaders.
