PRT will be closed for passenger service Sept.1 – 3

To accommodate additional testing of recent software updates, the West Virginia University Personal Rapid Transit will be closed for passenger service beginning Friday (Aug. 31) at 10:15 p.m. The PRT is closed on Sundays and will remain closed on Monday (Sept. 3) in observance of Labor Day. PRT passenger service will resume normal hours of operation on Tuesday (Sept. 4) at 6:30 a.m. WVU Vice President for Strategic Initiatives Rob Alsop talks in this video about the temporary closure and long term efforts to upgrade the PRT system.

WVU students, faculty and staff should use alternative transportation methods during this scheduled maintenance. University shuttle service will run on a continuous loop during the weekend following the schedule below:

Mountain Line Transit Authority also will operate throughout the weekend except for Monday (Sept. 3) in observance of Labor Day. Visit http://www.busride.org/ for details on Mountain Line routes and schedules.

WVU director of Transportation and Parking, Clement Solomon, said, “As part of our modernization efforts we have implemented a number of highly sophisticated technologies to enhance PRT operations. As anticipated, some of these technologies produced a few bugs. This downtime will allow us to address some of these issues and perform additional software testing. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during this scheduled maintenance.”
