Leadership and Organization Development has three exciting training opportunities at the end of July for all supervisors.  

1. Onboarding Best Practices
July 25, noon to 1 p.m., Greenbrier Room, Mountainlair

Learn about how using the New Employee Onboarding Toolkit can help you and your new employees get the most out of the onboarding experience.  This course lasts an hour.

As a participant, you will learn what others have done, what worked and what did not work, and be encouraged to share your own practices, ideas, and initiatives.  

Objectives and Tools include:  

  • Discuss the importance of- and impact of- onboarding.

  • Distinguish their role as a manager in the onboarding process.

  • Learn to utilize the Supervisor’s Guide for welcoming new staff.

Feel free to bring a laptop, smartphone, tablet or other device to take notes and experience Supervisor Tool Kit on a mobile device.

2. Productive Performance Discussions
July 26, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., CPASS Room G10

Are you prepared to conduct productive performance conversations? Are you afraid that you will see some tears or anger? Are you wondering about how to deal with various stages of emotional responses?

This course provides an opportunity for Supervisors conducting performance reviews to enhance their communication techniques through the use of informative tools and simulations. The workshop is designed to help you enhance collaborative and productive performance management conversations.  This course lasts two hours.

Learning Outcomes:

Participants will be better able to:

  • Prepare for and/or conduct difficult performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback with ease.

  • Define and practice continuous collaboration.

  • Recognize and react properly to emotional responses.

  • Discuss the steps to establishing employee accountability.

  • Practice establishing clear goals and expectations.

  • Build trust, offer coaching, and provide ongoing feedback.

3. Recognition Best Practices:

An interactive and informal session that focuses on best practices for showing appreciation and recognition to WVU employees. This session lasts one hour.

As a participant, you will learn what others have done, what worked and what did not work, and be encouraged to share your own practices, ideas, and initiatives.
