CreatAthon@WVU believes a dream is worth more than sleep

A roomful of people seated at a messy table brainstorming at the Creatathon.

Nearly 50 students and eight area professionals will put in a good night’s work developing strategic communications campaigns benefitting three local organizations April 20-21. CreateAthon@WVU, is a 24-hour work around the clock marathon event coordinated by the Reed College of Media.

“This unique event harnesses the skills of our talented students for social good,” said Maryanne Reed, Dean of the Reed College of Media. “I am excited to see how this group of emerging professionals helps these deserving organizations advance their efforts to do good work in the Mountain State.”

This year, students and business professionals will unite to support the mission of Libera WV, Friends of Cheat and WVU Extension Service. At the end of the 24-hour period, students will present their work to a panel of judges with the hopes of becoming the CreateAthon@WVU 2018 champions. Materials produced during this creative blitz will range from videos and strategic social media plans, to media kits and branding campaigns. The winning team’s organization will receive professional printing services provided by Morgantown Printing and Binding.

“At CreateAthon@WVU we know a lot can happen overnight,” said Izzie Keim, CreateAthon event coordinator. “This is an opportunity for students to gain campaign experience through skills-based learning and build their portfolio while bettering the local community.”
