Mike Hoffmann, Executive Director of the Cornell Institute for Climate Smart Solutions, will host a seminar titled “Climate Change and Our Changing Menu” April 24 at 3 p.m. in the Media Innovation Center on the 4th floor of Evansdale Crossing.
Sponsored by the WVU Institute of Water Security and Science, in collaboration with the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design and the WVU Media Innovation Center, the seminar will cover the basics of climate change and how it is affecting our globally interconnected food supply—including staple commodities and favorites like coffee, wine and chocolate.
Bringing together the interdependent challenges of food and national security, Hoffmann’s talk will encourage students and faculty to reconsider the ways in which research can be used to develop new tools and practices to help agricultural and food sectors adapt to “the new normal.”
The discussion will include an overview of new outreach opportunities, climate smart farming decision tools, and partnerships applicable to the Northeast and elsewhere.
Hoffmann’s approach to addressing the issue of climate change involves giving public lectures, writing op-ed pieces and leveraging other educational strategies to help raise awareness of the urgency of our current climate situation.
The event is open to students, faculty and the media, but interested individuals are required to register online, as seating is limited.
Attendees can register for the seminar, which will also be available via webinar in real time for those who cannot attend and will be recorded for on-demand access after the event.
