The Community Human Rights Film Series returns this spring to showcase three engaging films that explore the most critical human rights issues of our time.
The second film in the series will be “Awake: A Dream from Standing Rock” at 7 p.m. today (March 20) in the Gluck Theatre of the WVU Mountainlair.
This event is free and open to the public.
This semester we kicked off this semester is a screening of “The Homestretch” on Feb. 13. Additional films scheduled to screen this spring include “The 13th,” which will be shown April 10 at 7 p.m. in the Gluck Theatre.
The third annual Human Rights Film Series launched this past fall with powerful films such as “I am not your Negro” and “Preying on Puerto Rico.” The goal of the film series, according to Ed Cole, Special Events Coordinator Sr. for Diversity Initiatives is to bring public awareness to events that are happening around the world. We are often disconnected from those events because they are not here. However we have many students and community members who are affected by these events and as One Mountaineer Family, it's our task to learn what makes us different while supporting one another in solidarity. All showings include a discussion at the conclusion of the film.
Awake: A Dream from Standing Rock - The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe peacefully resists the government's plan to construct an oil pipeline through their land.
