The Morgantown Police Department would like to remind all pedestrians, bicyclists and motor vehicle operators to use caution and obey all traffic laws. The Morgantown Police Department will be stringently enforcing traffic regulations to ensure the safety of the public in general.
Pedestrians are reminded to pay attention to all vehicular traffic and cross roadways at crosswalks or in marked crosswalks. Pedestrians are required to cross with the pedestrian crosswalk control signals at marked crosswalks. In those areas that are not controlled pedestrians are prohibited from quickly stepping out onto the street but must wait until it is safe to cross.
All pedestrians are reminded to not walk in, around or near roadways while distracted by electronic devices such as texting, talking on cell phones or similar activities.
Bicyclists are required to ride with the flow of traffic and follow all traffic regulations. This includes stopping at red lights and stop signs. Bicyclists are granted the full use of the lane of travel that they are using. Bicyclists are required to have a white light and red reflectors mounted and in operation on the bicycle when operated at night. Additionally, when operating a bicycle within the City Limits or Morgantown, bicycle operators are required to wear a protective helmet.
Motorists are reminded to adhere to speed restrictions as well as following all traffic signals. Failure to yield to pedestrians and disregarding of traffic signals are strictly prohibited and will result in the issuance of citations when observed by law enforcement personnel. Drivers are also reminded that operating a motor vehicle while utilizing an electronic device is illegal and will result in the issuance of traffic citations as well.
