Researchers throughout the region who must use certified laboratories for sample analyses now may bring their samples to the Analytical Laboratory of the West Virginia University Energy Institute/National Research Center for Coal and Energy on the Evansdale campus. Gabriela Perhinschi, the lab’s manager, announced today that the lab passed the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection certification process for analyses of non-potable-water inorganic nonmetals and trace metals.
“West Virginia DEP requires researchers to use only certified labs,” said Perhinschi.
“Until today, WVU researchers had to send their samples off-campus to private, certified analytical laboratories. Now that we are DEP-certified, researchers can bring their samples to us. We can help researchers at other organizations, too.”
The EI/NRCCE Analytical Laboratory can turn samples around in ten business days. The lab’s primary mission is to serve WVU researchers who are eligible for discount pricing. The lab serves non-WVU clients at commercial rates.
“DEP’s rigorous certification process took months to complete and ensures high quality results,” said Brian J. Anderson, WVU Energy Institute director. “Besides being more convenient for WVU researchers, the certified lab allows WVU to keep more of its research funding on campus which we can reinvest in our research infrastructure while increasing our capacity to work with external research partners.”
