Author Dennis Hinrichsen will give a reading as the Department of English’s 2017-18 Virginia Butts Sturm Writer-in-Residence Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the WVU Downtown Library’s Milano Reading Room.
In addition to his reading, which is free and open to the public, Hinrichsen will work with WVU creative writing students throughout the week.
Hinrichsen is the author of seven books of poetry and two chapbooks. His most recent works are “Skin Music,” co-winner of the 2014 Michael Waters Poetry Prize from Southern Indiana Review Press, and “Electrocution, A Partial History,” winner of the Rachel Wetzsteon Chapbook Prize from Map Literary: A Journal of Contemporary Writing and Art. He has been the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts grant and two grants from the state of Michigan as well as prizes for work published in Poetry Northwest, Carolina Quarterly and Third Coast. His work will be included in two forthcoming anthologies: “Undocumented: Great Lakes Poet Laureates on Social Justice” and “I Just Wanna Testify: Poems about Detroit Music.”
Hinrichsen lives in Lansing, Michigan, where he is serving as the area’s first poet laureate.
