Last week, 29 leaders from across WVU graduated from Crucial Conversations training.
This four-month program, which is designed to help supervisors foster open dialogue around difficult topics, is offered by the Division of Talent and Culture's Leadership and Organization Development (LOD) unit.
The LOD team worked with supervisors in the Division of Student Life and Division of Facilities and Services to identify opportunities to create more open and accepting environments within their areas and promote a more positive, participation-oriented culture across the University.
Supervisors also learned coaching and feedback skills, which can be applied to daily interactions with their employees as well as performance and recognition discussions.
During the graduation, Craig Decker, associate director, Campus Recreation, and Jerry Howell, operations manager, Facilities Management, were selected by their peers to give reflection remarks that encouraged ongoing dialogue through accountability and follow through.
Further, Jessica Li, assistant director, Fraternity and Sorority Life, and Jim Mirage, assistant director, Roads and Grounds, were recognized by their peers as Exemplary Participants in the program.
Crucial Conversations will become a professional development tool for leaders across the Morgantown campus in the coming months. The program will be rolled out across the WVU system later this year.
