Monongalia County Point in Time Homelessness Count

Every year, Monongalia County, with the support of volunteers, conducts a Point In Time Count of all persons experiencing homelessness on the streets, in emergency shelters, and in other temporary housing to estimate the size of the population in need of homeless housing and supportive services. The PIT is an important opportunity to collect essential data on unsheltered individuals and all demographic information will be reported to the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. The unsheltered count is essential in continuing to secure funding for Monongalia County social service agencies engaging in street outreach, recovery, and housing stability. The Point In Time Count is planned for and executed by Bartlett Housing Solutions in partnership with the West Virginia Coalition to End Homelessness, other social service agencies and community organizations.

In preparation for the 2018 Count, which will begin at 4 p.m. Jan. 23 and conclude at 4 p.m. on Jan.24 volunteers are needed for various roles at different times to support the execution of the count. Volunteers must be available to attend a one-hour training in advance of the PIT Count either in-person or online. If you are available to volunteer, find additional information about the types of opportunities and let us know your interest by completing the 2018 PIT Volunteer Registration Form. For WVU students, staff and faculty, to receive credit for your service, sign up on iServe as well.

If you have any questions about the PIT Count or if your organization is interested in supporting the count through an incentive, personal hygiene product or food donation drive, contact Ryan Boyd, Assistant Director of Bartlett Housing Solutions and Monongalia County PIT Coordinator.  Bartlett Housing Solutions is an official partner of the Center for Service and Learning.
