The World Music Performance Center will present its fall showcase concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday (Nov. 3) at the Creative Arts Center.
The program will feature the Morning and Afternoon Steel Bands, the Brazilian Ensemble, African Music and Dance Ensemble, and Bluegrass and Old Time Band.
The Steel Bands will play a variety of popular and traditional steel band charts on instruments originating from Trinidad and Tobago. The Brazilian Ensemble will present a range of different samba arrangements using a variety of Brazilian percussion instruments in different styles to showcase musical diversity within Brazil.
The program will also include a world premiere arrangement for cuicas, a Brazilian friction drum. African Music and Dance Ensemble will perform arrangements of music from Guinea and Uganda. Selections featuring the Bluegrass and Old Time Band will highlight the music of Appalachia.
