The School of Music will host a jazz ensembles concert at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Creative Arts Center.

The concert falls on what would be the 100th birthday week for famed jazz artist Dizzy Gillespie.

“Our jazz big band and all of the instrumental combos are playing music written or played by Dizzy Gillespie,” said Jared Sims, director of jazz studies at WVU. “The big band will play ‘A Night in Tunisia,’ which is a very well-known jazz piece that Dizzy was famous for playing."

In total, one big band, four instrumental combos and four vocalists will perform during the concert, which will take place in the Gladys G. Davis Theatre.

As with all concerts from WVU’s premiere ensembles, WVU students receive free admission with their student IDs. For general audience tickets, contact the WVU Box Office at 304.293.SHOW or visit Ticketmaster.
