To support a safe, respectful and accountable campus community, the University is strengthening its required compliance training programs.
Title IX Essentials for faculty and staff
This upcoming academic year, faculty, staff and new students must complete a new Title IX training module, “Title IX Essentials,” through Blackboard eCampus.
For all WVU and Health Sciences employees, including faculty, staff and student employees, the new training will be assigned upon hire, position change and at the beginning of the fall semester. Current employees must complete the module annually between Aug. 1 and Sept. 30.
The updated trainings reflect current federal guidance and University policy, and reinforce employee responsibilities related to reporting, prevention and response to prohibited conduct. Those who fail to complete the training may lose access to certain roles or activities on campus.
Title IX Essentials for first-time freshman and transfer students
In addition, all first-time freshmen and transfer students are required to complete “Title IX Essentials for Students” upon enrollment through Blackboard eCampus. If students do not complete the training within the required timeframe, a registration hold will be placed on student accounts, which prevents them from registering for classes, until they complete the module.
Youth Protection for faculty, staff, students and volunteers
The University is also streamlining and updating training requirements for any individual working with youth in WVU-sponsored programs. This comprehensive “WVU Youth Protection” training reflects a broader and more integrated approach to recognizing, preventing and reporting suspected child abuse and neglect, while supporting the University’s ongoing efforts to enhance youth safety across all programs.
The training must be completed upon hire or prior to participation in youth programming and renewed annually. Completion expires each calendar year, with a deadline of Dec. 31. Individuals who do not complete the required training will not be permitted to participate in youth programming activities.
Individuals must self-enroll through the Compliance website.
Those who have already completed the training this calendar year do not have to retake the training until Jan. 1, 2027.
