The WVU Research Office has appointed Elizabeth Meek as the director of the Office of Animal Welfare.
Meek brings more than 20 years of experience in animal welfare programs and a strong record of administrative leadership to the role, most of it with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Following a comprehensive search, the committee chaired by Michael Peron unanimously recommended her appointment.
“Dr. Meek is exceptionally well-qualified to be our next director. She has a 20-year track record as an administrative leader with numerous achievements in advancing the welfare of animals in research and teaching,” Perone said.
Meek’s leadership will further strengthen the University’s commitment to regulatory excellence, ethical research practices and the highest standards of animal care.
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Meek to the Office of Research Integrity, Compliance, and Security as the next director of the Office of Animal Welfare. She is very well qualified to meet the current challenges facing animal research and lead the office into a new era,” said Melanie Page, associate vice president of the Office of Research Integrity, Compliance, and Security.
