Scholars application open to health professions students

Rural Health Scholars

The WVU Institute for Community and Rural Health and the West Virginia Area Health Education Centers are accepting applications for the WV AHEC Rural Community Health Scholars program.

The deadline to apply for early admission is March 31.

Each year, WV AHEC selects up to 75 of West Virginia’s top health professions students to train as the next generation of rural health leaders through the RCH Scholars Program. This two-year program provides valuable experience through interprofessional education in classroom, clinical and community-based settings designed to prepare Scholars to be community leaders once they enter practice.

Scholars will become leaders in their professions and communities while engaging with an interprofessional, statewide team of health care professionals. They will also develop skills to implement health care services in medically underserved and rural areas through hands-on experience from experts in the field.

Additionally, they will be nationally recognized, showcasing a commitment to underserved communities and interprofessional collaboration.

Applicants should be interested in rural health, have a minimum 3.0 GPA and have at least two years remaining in their degree program.

The new class of accepted scholars will begin this two-year program Sept. 1, and complete it by May 2028.

Scholars will receive a participation award of $1,150 upon program completion.
