In support of the University’s ongoing commitment to employee development, the Division of Talent and Culture will launch the 2025 performance review process on March 2 for classified and non-classified staff and certain FE/AP employees.
Aligned with the core values of WVU, the annual performance review process is designed to measure an employee’s capabilities, accomplishments, development and overall contributions to the University, as well as the critical role each employee plays in bringing our land-grant mission to life.
The 2025 performance review period will cover Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2025.
Throughout this process, Talent and Culture teams will work with leaders across the University to provide additional support and training as we continue to work to ensure that staff members receive a thorough and effective performance review experience.
On March 2, employees will receive a link via email from the performance management system to complete a pre-review. The pre-review is optional but strongly encouraged.
Pre-reviews provide employees with the opportunity to more actively engage in the performance review process by reflecting on their accomplishments, providing their supervisor with thoughts on their work over the past year, and identifying opportunities for growth. Employees will have until March 16 to complete their pre-review.
March 18 — Supervisors will receive an email to their WVU account from the performance management system with instructions to complete a performance review for each eligible employee hired prior to July 1, 2025. All reviews must be completed by April 7. Vice presidents and deans should review and approve all final ratings from April 24.
April 29 through May 13 — Supervisors will conduct employee review meetings to provide details on each employee’s performance review.
Performance review resources can be found online or through free Leadership and Organizational Development eLearning courses. Two related courses include “An Inside Look at WVU Performance Management” and “Coaching People Leaders to Have Purposeful and Effective Performance Review Conversations.” Access the courses.
Visit the Talent and Culture website for more information and to read FAQs.
We also want to share a brief look ahead at changes to future staff performance review cycles.
The review period will shift from a calendar year (Jan. 1 to Dec. 31) to a fiscal year (July 1 to June 30), with the formal performance review process running from July to September and our first formal performance reviews occurring in September 2027.
It is our intent to ensure there is no gap in performance reviews as we transition to the new timeline.
This change will better align with the academic year and more closely tie any future merit-based compensation program decisions to performance evaluations and enrollment numbers. The faculty review process will remain unchanged.
More details about the updated process and timeline will be shared later this spring/summer after the 2025 performance review process concludes.
Thank you in advance for participating in the 2025 performance review process.
