RRI, Department of Economics co-hosting real estate and urban economics expert

The Regional Research Institute and Department of Economics will co-host Edward Coulson as he presents “Appraisal and Gender” at 11:30 a.m. Friday (Dec. 5) in Reynolds Hall, Room 5201. 

The seminar will cover new research co-authored by Coulson, James N. Conklin, Moussa Diop and Ruchi Singh. 

Coulson is a professor of economics and public policy who serves as the director of the Center for Real Estate at the UC Irvine Paul Merage School of Business. 

Formerly, he served as the director of the Lied Institute for Real Estate Studies at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and a professor of economics and the Jeffrey and Cindy King Faculty Fellow in Real Estate at the Pennsylvania State University. 

He received his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California, Riverside, and his doctorate degree from UC San Diego.

Coulson has published widely in real estate, urban economics, housing economics and related fields. An editor of the Journal of Regional Science and Journal of Housing Economics, he serves on the editorial boards of several other journals in real estate and urban economics. 

He served as president of the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association in 2016 and was awarded the George Bloom Award for Lifetime Service to the Association in 2024. 

His co-edited book “Energy Efficiency and the Future of Real Estate” was published in 2017 by Palgrave Press. 

Additionally, Coulson is also a three-time champion of the Jeopardy! game show.
