‘Leadership Under Fire: Lessons from Ukrainian Veterans’ planned Nov. 18

The Ukraine flag is shown waving above the Mountaineer.

Lt. Mykola Melnyk of the Ukrainian 47th Mechanized Brigade and two of his fellow veterans will share updates on the current situation along the Russia-Ukraine front at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 18) in the Mountainlair, Rhododendron Room.

The event is hosted by the WVU Ukrainian Mountaineers Association and Army ROTC.

The WVU community is also invited to meet the veterans during a welcome dinner at 5 p.m. Monday (Nov. 17) at 300 Orchard Crossing #1725 in Morgantown.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a dish. Pizza will be provided.

Oleh Bonchynsky and Dennis Hayda will join Melnyk as they share their insights into modern drone warfare, along with their perspective on what it will take to bring today's global conflict to an end.

Melnyk led an assault unit that broke through fortified Russian defenses, advancing 10 kilometers during the 2023 counteroffensive, while Bonchynsky and Hayda defended the Donetsk airport for more than 38 days in 2014 and fought in the Avdiivka industrial zone battles in 2016.
