WVU secures reaccreditation through 2035

Stewart Hall Fall

As a result of a comprehensive evaluation in spring 2025, the Higher Learning Commission has reaffirmed accreditation for WVU through 2035.

“The reaffirmation of HLC accreditation confirms the quality of our academic programs and recognizes our processes focused on successful student outcomes, while ensuring we have adequate assessment procedures that allow us to evaluate and improve our programs across the entire portfolio,” said Paul Kreider, interim provost and vice president for academic affairs, said.

“Our students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends can be proud knowing our institution meets the highest standards in collegiate education.”

As part of the review process, the HLC team reviewed a self-study produced by University community members demonstrating how the institution meets the HLC’s five evaluation criteria:

  • Mission.

  • Integrity: Ethical and responsible conduct.

  • Teaching and Learning: Quality, resources and support.

  • Teaching and Learning: Evaluation and improvement.

  • Resources, planning and institutional effectiveness.

Following the campus visit, HLC determined WVU successfully met all components of the criteria for accreditation as well as all requirements for federal compliance, which is considered the best possible outcome of the review.

“The peer review team that visited campus and conducted the review was complimentary of the evidence provided in the self-study and of the faculty, staff, and students with whom they met,” said Louis Slimak, associate provost for curriculum and development and University accreditation liaison.

“Congratulations to the entire institutional community on the hard work and dedication that everyone puts in every day to deliver learning, experiences, and services to our students.”

The institution will have its next comprehensive evaluation in academic year 2028-29, as part of the standard pathway 10-year cycle.
