Researchers engage in discoveries at WVU Van Liere and West Virginia IDeA Research Conference

Building

The conference will engage researchers from WVU and academic institutions across the state of West Virginia from Oct. 17-18 at the Erickson Alumni Center.

President Michael T. Benson, Dr. Clay Marsh and Ming Lei will deliver opening remarks at 9 a.m.

Hosted by the WVU Health Sciences Office of Research and Graduate Education, the conference will feature poster and oral presentations from undergraduate, graduate, professional, MD and PharmD program students, postdoctoral trainees, residents, fellows, and faculty across the five WVU health schools — Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Public Health.

The first Van Liere Research Conference was held in 1965 and recognized the research of medical students in the School of Medicine. Dr. Edward J. Van Liere, the dean of the School of Medicine from 1937 to 1960, developed the two-year medical school into a four-year accredited program.

In 2024, the conference expanded by inviting IDeA-supported researchers and students from across the state of West Virginia to join the researchers and students of WVU Health Sciences.

The conference has continued to grow, with expanded participation and a wide range of research topics that reflect the momentum of research activity at WVU.
