Department of Otolaryngology alumni celebrate residents, department achievements

Otolaryngology Alumni Conference 2025

Faculty, residents and alumni gathered at the Morgantown Marriott at Waterfront Place earlier this summer to honor graduating residents and celebrate department achievements during the annual WVU Department of Otolaryngology Alumni Conference and Banquet.

The morning session included presentations from guest speakers Dr. P. Ashley Wackym, chair of the Rutgers University Department of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery, and Dr. Phillip Purnell, chief of laryngology, and professional voice and assistant professor at Rutgers University.

A banquet was held following the conference to honor graduating residents and recognize several resident, faculty and staff award winners.

Dr. Hassan Ramadan, department chair, and Dr. Brian Kellermeyer, residency program director, presented the following graduate residents with a certificate of completion.

  • Dr. Mustafa Bulbul

  • Dr.  Parker Tumlin 

The following residents were recognized with awards for their research and clinical efforts throughout the academic year.

  • Touma Foundation Research Award — Dr. Ian Sunyecz (DO)

  • Sobisca Hall Research Award — Dr. Parker Tumlin (MD)

  • Fortunata Lim Research Award — Dr. Mustafa Bulbul (MD)

  • Stephen J. Wetmore Research Award — Dr. Sairisheel Gabbi Reddy (MD)

  • Pediatric Research Award — Dr. Erica McArdle (MD)

  • Anthony & Carole Oliverio Resident Clinical Achievement Award — Drs. Mustafa Bulbul and  William Marshall (MD)

The following faculty and staff were also recognized. 

Dr. Ramadan presented the Otolaryngology Chairman’s Award to Dr. Matthew Oliverio.

The Otolaryngology Department residents presented the following awards in recognition of excellence and dedication to resident learning and success. 

  • Otolaryngology Teaching Award — Dr. Meghan Turner, associate professor and director of robotics

  • Otolaryngology Service Award — Rebecca Elmo, residency program manager

Additionally, Dr. Ramadan was surprised by the department faculty with a thoughtful gift recognizing his 35 years of exemplary service to the department and 10 years as chairman of the Otolaryngology Department.
