On Eagles’ Wings annual horse sponsorship auction and dinner planned

Horse and Child

Meet the horses and raise money while learning more about the accredited therapeutic riding center during the family friendly event at 5:30 p.m. June 19 at 371 Opekiska Ridge Road in Fairmont.

The On Eagles’ Wings Therapeutic Horsemanship Center provides adaptive riding lessons to those with physical, cognitive, emotional and social disabilities and challenges, and it also partners with at-risk youth and substance abuse rehabilitation programs. The “mini-wing” miniature horses regularly visit hospitals, nursing homes, schools and libraries.

Donations will help cover hay, feed, farrier costs and veterinary care for the therapeutic horses.

Several courses in the equine studies minor are taught at the facility, and many of its volunteers are current WVU students and alumni.

A barbecue dinner will be provided for those who RSVP by June 8.

To RSVP, text or call Carol Petitto, executive director of On Eagles’ Wings Therapeutic Horsemanship Center and an adjunct instructor in the Davis College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, at 304-288-9748.
