The Department of English will hold a “Week of Writing Celebration” from April 14-18 in Colson Hall and on Zoom.

The campus community is invited to attend the following events:

“Alumni Zoom Panel” from noon to 1 p.m. April 15 — Zoom

Recent graduates who had a focus on professional writing and editing will discuss their respective paths to their current positions and reflect on the ways that their education has prepared them for their careers.

“WRIT Café” from 1-3 p.m. April 16 — Colson Hall, Room 130

Everyone is invited to a casual gathering with donuts, coffee and button making. Therapy dog Ruby will also be in attendance. Students are invited to learn more about the Department of English and meet current students and faculty.

“Writing for Community and Cultural Engagement” and PWE Capstone Showcase from 4-6 p.m. April 17 — Colson Hall, Room 130

This event is a celebration of how students have used writing in all of its forms — textual, visual, aural and multimodal —to engage and support cultures and communities. Poster presentations will showcase a range of topics, from the writing of student interns working with community organizations, to grant writing projects with the local library, to representations of Appalachia in popular culture. Attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite posters.

There will also be activities set up in the main entry of Colson Hall, including a collaborative poem.

Throughout the week, graduating students will be featured on the infostation in Colson Hall.
