LaRue named Teacher of the Year

Renee LaRue, teaching associate professor in the School of Mathematical and Data Sciences, was named the 2025 College Level Mathematics Teacher of the Year during the West Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics Conference held at Stonewall Resort.

LaRue has made a lasting impact on students through her dedication to teaching and her ability to make complex mathematical concepts accessible. Her clear explanations and structured approach help students build a strong mathematical foundation, fostering both understanding and confidence in their abilities.

Students consistently praise LaRue for her exceptional teaching style and support. 

One student said, “She has a great way of explaining confusing topics and bringing up common mistakes students make and how to avoid them.”

Others highlighted her welcoming demeanor and student-focused teaching approach.

 “Dr. LaRue does a good job of describing concepts conceptually and simply so that the students can build up to the more complex concepts and topics. She’s also very approachable and happy to help whenever she can.”
