WVU Research Communications Office writer Laura Jackson’s book “Deep and Wild: On Mountains, Opossums and Finding Your Way in West Virginia” has been named the Book of the Year by the Writers Conference of Northern Appalachia.
Her debut essay collection explores all that is special about the Mountain State. Using humor to move beyond commonplace Appalachian stories centered on hardship and poverty, Jackson revels in nature, family and joy.
“We particularly admire how ‘Deep and Wild’ resonates with a wide audience and are pleased to honor such a delightfully funny book,” said Kimberly McElhatten, WCoNA’s Book of the Year Committee chair.
“Deep and Wild” is available on Amazon and everywhere books are sold.
