Provost’s Office seeks faculty leaders to partner in general education revision

The Office of the Provost is launching efforts to create a new general education curriculum designed to better serve the University’s undergraduate students.

Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education Evan Widders and Associate Provost for Curriculum and Assessment Louis Slimak, along with recently appointed Provost Fellow Lindsay Morris-Neuberger, will lead efforts to engage faculty, students and campus community members throughout the process.

Up to four faculty members are being sought by the team to serve as leads throughout this multi-year process, driving the process forward through institutional collaboration.

“For several years now, we have been working to streamline our general education curriculum and processes,” Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Paul Kreider said. “Now, we need to begin in earnest to truly rethink and reenvision that curriculum to ensure we are reaching meaningful educational goals that serve our students’ needs — now and into the future. Having committed faculty members to help lead this process is essential to its success.”

Under the direction of Widders and Slimak, Morris-Neuberger will guide the group of faculty leaders who will be charged with actively engaging and soliciting input from stakeholders across campus and ultimately lending their expertise in the development of a new general education program and curriculum.

Morris-Neuberger was appointed as a Provost Fellow in January 2025 to help coordinate and lead this effort. She is the Woodburn Professor and Chair of the Communication Studies Department in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences.

Prior to joining WVU in 2022, she served in several roles at the University of Central Florida, including as a fellow in the College of Undergraduate Studies where her work was focused on University General Education Assessment as part of their general education program refresh initiative from 2019-21.

Faculty members interested in partnering on this effort are encouraged to apply for a faculty leader role by April 2.

Faculty chosen to serve as leaders in this process will receive compensation aligned with their role and in consultation with their chair and dean’s office.
