Center for Resilient Communities partners with local nonprofit to teach high school students about flood preparedness

West Virginia Flood

The WVU Center for Resilient Communities is partnering with Design Our Future to expand opportunities for West Virginia high school students to engage in problem-solving activities focused on conducting community assessments for flood preparedness.

The goal is to teach students how to help their communities prepare, plan and respond to flooding events.

The 2024-25 Design our Future Challenge invites high school students to submit flood vulnerability assessments that investigate the various factors that put our communities and region at risk for a chance to earn financial prizes.

Student submissions are due by 11:59 p.m. April 18.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to share this information with high school students who have an interest in contributing to a more just, equitable and vibrant community.

The new partnership focuses on positioning the Resilience Ambassador Program as a pathway to success in the Design Our Future national prize challenge.
