The U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board named Briane Keith Turley, an adjunct professor in the Department of History and director of the Appalachian Hungarian Heritage Project, as the recipient of the Fulbright Specialist Program award.
He will complete research and teaching projects at the University of Szeged that aim to exchange knowledge and strengthen partnerships benefiting participants, institutions and communities both in the United States and overseas through a variety of educational and training activities within American studies.
Turley also received a Fulbright Lectureship in 2002, Fulbright Alumni Initiative Award in 2006 and two additional Fulbright Specialist awards in 2011 and 2016.
Recipients of the awards are selected based on academic and professional achievement, demonstrated leadership in their field, and potential to foster long-term cooperation between institutions in the U.S. and abroad.
Fulbright recipients address critical global issues in all disciplines, while building relationships, knowledge and leadership in support of the long-term interests of the U.S.
Since its establishment in 1946, the Fulbright Program has given more than 400,000 students, scholars, teachers, artists and scientists the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns.
