Test of WVU Alert system scheduled for Jan. 29

To ensure proper communication during an emergency, West Virginia University will conduct a test of the WVU Alert system at 1 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 29) on the Morgantown, Keyser and Beckley campuses.

Faculty and staff must register for the emergency messaging system. If you are already registered, we encourage you to update your information and ensure it is correct prior to the test.

Students are automatically enrolled in the WVU Alert system through their MIX email but should add their phone number, if it has not already been provided. If parents are also interested in receiving WVU Alert messages, students can add parental contact information through their account.

WVU Alert messages are sent through all possible channels of communication when there is an imminent threat to the safety of the campus community or when the University is delayed or closed due to weather conditions.

The Campus Warning tier of the WVU Alert system is utilized when Clery-reportable crimes occur within the area designated by the Clery Act. Messages are sent through email, LiveSafe and social media communications.

Community Notice messages, which are posted on social media and sent through LiveSafe, are distributed for less urgent incidents in an effort to enhance safety on campus and provide useful information.

All members of the University community are encouraged to download the LiveSafe app and allow push notifications to receive important safety messages. Other app features include options to anonymously report tips to WVU Police through direct two-way communication and to virtually walk home with friends or family.

We also suggest all employees on the Morgantown Campus follow @WVUsafety on X and the WVU Safety and Wellness Facebook page to receive important updates.
