WVU Commencement set for tomorrow

Graduation Commencement

August and December graduates will celebrate their accomplishments during two Commencement ceremonies slated for 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. tomorrow (Dec. 21) at the Coliseum.

President Gordon Gee, Chancellor and Executive Dean for Health Sciences Dr. Clay Marsh, and Vice Provost Mark Gavin will speak to graduates. 

The 9 a.m. ceremony will honor graduates from the College of Applied Human Sciences, the College of Creative Arts and Media, the College of Law and the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, and will include Presidential Honorary Degree conferrals for Hoppy Kercheval, a longtime West Virginia broadcaster, and David Riggle, a special education teacher in Tyler County.

The 2 p.m. ceremony will honor graduates from the Davis College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, John Chambers College of Business and Economics, School of Dentistry, School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Pharmacy and School of Public Health, and will include a Presidential Honorary Degree conferral for Nitin “Nick” Kumbhani, a leading executive in software development and investment management.

Leading graduates as grand marshal during the 9 a.m. ceremony will be Duncan Lorimer, Fellow of the Royal Society, Shaw Prize recipient, and professor of physics and astronomy in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences.

Maura McLaughlin, National Academy of Sciences member, Shaw Prize recipient, Eberly Distinguished Professor of Physics and Astronomy, and chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy, will preside during the 2 p.m. ceremony.
