Information Technology Services is updating the WVU-recommended models on the Dell Premier Page in the coming week. The new default configuration will include 32GB of memory and a 512GB solid state drive, replacing the current default 16GB memory and 256GB SSD.
This change is being made to improve performance and align with current technology standards to handle modern workloads. The recommended new configuration will better meet the needs of faculty, staff and students who are working with more resource-intensive applications.
This increase in memory and disk size will add to the cost of all recommended models. The price difference varies by model, but the average increase is around $125.
Those purchasing new Dell machines have the flexibility to customize memory and storage options on all WVU recommended models. For those who prefer to prioritize cost savings over the performance benefits of additional memory and disk size, the 16GB and 256GB options will remain available; purchasers just need to click the “Customize and Buy” button to view those options.
The student technology guide on the ITS Student Resources page has also been updated to reflect these new recommendations.
