The Office of the Provost, in partnership with WVU Libraries and WVU Press, will host the ninth annual celebration of Long-Form Scholarship to highlight the creative and scholarly work produced by University faculty and staff during the past year at 4 p.m. Oct. 22 in the Downtown Library, Milano Reading Room.
The Provost’s Office invites eligible individuals to submit their work and participate in this special event, which offers the opportunity to highlight the commitment, hard work and achievements of faculty who are at the forefront of teaching, learning, insight and discovery at our institution.
The celebration is designed to recognize the achievements of all faculty and staff members who have published a book, released an audio recording, or produced a full-length work in another medium (e.g., art, theater, film or dance) within any discipline.
To be eligible for submission, the work must have been published, released or produced between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2023.
Complete the online submission form by Friday (Sept. 20).
Participants will be part of a virtual showcase on the Provost’s website that honors and celebrates innovative and creative scholarship.
This year, we are also celebrating the 25th anniversary of West Virginia University Press. In November 1999, newly appointed director Patrick Conner established a peer review process and joined the Association of University Presses, solidifying the then-dormant Press’s status as a scholarly publisher.
In addition to a display of recent highlighted work, Press authors will read selections of their own published in the last year, including Matthew Ferrence, author of “I Hate it Here, Please Vote for Me,” a timely counter-narrative to stories about a monolithic conservative rural America; and WVU creative writing alumnus Jake Maynard, author of “Slime Line,” his debut novel about the commercial fishing industry. Additional authors who plan to attend will be announced in the coming week.
All participants are asked to submit a high-resolution image of their work or the actual work for display purposes, if possible. Be sure to have the image ready for upload when completing the submission form.
If you have questions about the form or if it does not accommodate the information about your work, email provost@mail.wvu.edu for clarification.
